The common question of this arena is what is the difference between a wok and a large saute pan? There is numerous difference in feature and nature. Let’s have look at the details –

What is saute pan:

Other names of saute pan are fry pan, skillet. The pan which is used for jobs like frying, searing, and rowing foods is called a frying pan. On the other hand, the pan which is deep and round and which is made from metal is called saute pan. The combination of these two pans is considered as saute pan, which is a larger surface area. And saute pan as been created with straight sides. The name saute pan represents the French verb meaning to jump. As for jumping large surface area is needed and a saute pan also has a large, tall area and flat bottom.

So, this is named as saute an. Though finding out the difference between pans is hard these are very slightly different from each other. This pan helps to cook without overcrowding because of its deep and large size. It can bear high heat without being soggy and gives a nice crust finishing. Some noticeable advantages of saute pans are that:-

  1. These pans can got heat up much quicker than other pans.
  2. These pans can bear a high flame without getting burned.
  3. Its size is so much big for its ingredients. So, huge amounts can be cooked at a time.

Construction of saute pan:

A saute pan is made of metal and it has a flat thick bottom and it has a strong handle. Sometimes, there can be a little supporting handle on the opposite side. It can lock higher heat because of its construction system. Normally it ranges from 8″-12″ and can be up to 15 quarts. its unique design can be used for any type of cooking.

The pan which is round-bottomed,  high-walled, opposite from traditional frying pan and deep is known as wok pan and has been created in China and is famous in parts of east south and southeast  Asia and in some other places. Mainly wok is used for stirring. Wok is perfectly made for bearing the heat of professional stove. Cooking in wok is healthier because its non-stick surface helps to use less oil.

That’s why it’s a good option for cooking. Although woks are not good for stir-frying. if it is cooked with a high flame, then it can give a good result. Even every type of cooking is okay with wok. Different types of wok are used for different types of cooking. Wok is better than a traditional frying pan for one more reason, that is a wok pan distributes heat more evenly than a frying pan which helps to boil all the ingredients properly. Some advantages of it are:-

  1.  It can be used for any type of cooking
  2.  It helps to add a high level to foods
  3. It helps to make foods healthier.

As the cooking in wok needs high flame, so such kind of oil which is a high smoke point such as almond oil, soybean oil, and grape seed oil should be used.

Construction of wok:

Different wok is made for different purpose with different types of materials and each material has its own benefits and each material add different values to cooking. Carbon steel woks help to avoid food sticking and help to heat firstly. The smooth surface of stainless steel helps to clean easily and it’s a durable product. The cast iron wok is another type of wok. which is highly durable and can consume high heat and it’s good for saving energy. The ring handle of wok helps to prevent wobble and the wok covers help to retain hit for a long time.

The similarities and dissimilarities between wok and saute pan are described below:-

Similarities in details:

Easy to use:-Both the pans are easier using because of their  -+

surfaces and helps to cook large amount of food easily.

Various types of Frying:- both the pans can be used for various types of frying purposes without being burned.

Cooking without overcrowding:- As both the pans has enough area so they make it possible to cook without being overcrowded

Dissimilarities in detail:

Material:- These two pans are created from different forms of material and this difference in their making process has made them different from each other. The saute pan is created from iron and the wok pan is created from steel.

Size:- Though saute pan larger enough for cooking’s a large amount of food, wok pan is larger than saute pan.

Finding out:- because of being smaller than wok pan, the saute pan can be fond out easily than wok

Cooking’s variety:- Saute pan is suitable for every types of cooking’s but wok is good for those cooking’s which need high flame and types of cooking like steaks, larger pieces of poultry, etc

Cooking limit:- higher amount can be cooked in Wok pan than a saute pan. That’s why Wok pan is a good option for cooking large amount of food.

High flame:- As the wok pan is created for consuming high amount of flame, so every type of metal is capable of consuming high rather than saute pan. So, sometimes high flame can cause problems to saute pan.

What should be the choice:-

Though both the saute pan and wok has its own benefits and they add different values to food and help to get an outstanding finishing. Both have been made from different metals and vary according to price, size, services, etc. So, if anyone is a professional chef he should keep both for his easy cooking.

But if anyone wish to choose any one then he has to choose according to his need, budget, storing place, category of cooking, etc. By considering all of these things one can choose the accurate pan for himself.
